Sorry I couldn’t post this sooner as promised but I have had a really busy week. I walked into the barber shop on Monday to get a long overdue haircut. The shop I go to is in a neighborhood that isn’t the best, but it is near my work and I can go during my work hours. The ladies who cut hair there smoke like chimnies and it just isn’t the most pleasant atmosphere. I just can’t stop going there because one of the ladies who works there does such a damn good job.
So I am waiting to get my haircut. BIG DEAL! This guy who is before me gets called by one of the ladies. He really looks like he is homeless but I find out that he is 38 and lives with his mom. He just then starts talking about his meth addiction and how he has been doing it for twenty years. I heard that (and believe me it wasn’t hard to hear) and my ears perked up. I saw a lesson for me to learn in this man’s story.
He told the lady cutting his hair that he needed to look good because he was going to court the next day. The reason he was going to court he told her was “I am on rehab and I got caught breaking the terms for the seventh time!”. He then went on to say that he was going to jail for 14 days the next day.
He then asked the lady cutting his hair about another lady that used to work there. She apparently died of a drug overdose a year ago. WOW! Even those these two souls suffer from a different addiction, it is definetely the same disease. When the book says prison, insanity, or death all three things were mentioned in this experience. Sometimes it is important for me to see these things so I can appreciate what I have today. I don’t have to live in that chaos today. I have a choice just as they do/did. May god bless those who have to die in order for me to live. I will pray that he may find recovery like I have. It is a much better way for me to live today. Look for the signs, they are all around you. Thanks for being there!
